Deciding Where to Purchase Property in France
January 31st, 2012 . by adminIf the idea of relocating to France or having a vacation home there appeals to you, you may have considered looking into purchasing property in France. However, France is a relatively large country, and you will need to narrow down the area where you want to live or vacation before you can start looking in earnest.
There are a few factors you will want to consider when deciding where you want to purchase property in France. First, you will want to decide what type of weather you want to deal with. Some areas are quite hot in the summer but also cold in the winter, others have more moderate temperatures year round. Some areas have high levels of rainfall and an increased risk for flooding due to the effects of global warming.
You will also want to consider whether you want a rural property in France, something located in the city or something that is a bit in between, perhaps in a small town located within easy distance of a city. Cities offer the convenience of being able to easily get to the store to purchase what you need, but rural areas tend to have less crime and be more peaceful and relaxing.
Don’t forget to consider how easy it will be for you to travel back and forth to your country of origin, since you and your friends and relatives may want to visit back and forth from time to time.
You’ll obviously also have to consider the costs of purchasing property in France in different areas. Although you would love a home in certain areas of France, these homes may be priced outside of your budget. Also keep in mind the cost of living in different areas and the taxes you would need to pay based on where you live and the type of house you purchase.
If you aren’t fluent in the language, or are worried about moving somewhere where nobody speaks your language, you may want to consider purchasing property in France in an area where a lot of other expats are living. That way you would be able to go to people who speak your own language for help if you needed it.
